When traveling the world in your Off Road Trailer, one of the primary functions is to make kitchen setup easy and painless. In my backpacking days, setting up the ‘cooking’ area was as simple as unpacking the small stove, adding water to our dehydrated food, and cooking. With a trailer & many more mouths to feed, it gets a little more complicated.
Many trailers ship with slide out kitchens, and many others setup side shelves meant to hold their stove & cooking supplies. We’re increasingly seeing ‘all in one’ kitchen setups like the Cabela’s Deluxe Campers Kitchen ($129), the Outdoorsman from My Camp Kitchen ($449), or the Kanz $795 Field Kitchen (box only – no accessories included). Portable solutions like these make it easy to take your kitchen with you when not using the trailer (such as tailgating, etc), and make it possible to move the kitchen away from your ‘living area’.
We found this site while messing around on Google the other day. The Livin Lite company produces the Jeep branded trailers in Trail and Extreme versions, althought the site doesn’t specify what the main differences are.

We’ll be snapping pics of all the latest & greatest trailers at Overland Expo next week. Hopefully Adventure Trailers has something new and cool to show off, although I’m not sure how much they can improve upon their well tested and proven designs.
Like many, we’ve had our tow rig (a 2007 FJ Cruiser) for many years before getting into the ORT game. This last week we did our first major road trip with the truck & trailer and noticed that while our FJ is awesome on the trail, it’s not amazing at towing a 1500lb trailer uphill in the wind, especially running 33″ tires. We’re looking into upgrade options to help remedy the situation. So we’re wondering what the best upgrades are (in general) to make a tow rig perform a little better on the highway.
With the publication of FJC Magazines first review of the Manley Explore trailer in the April 2013 issue, the question once again comes up: is it better to buy a trailer ready to go, or to build one from a used military-style trailer?
To put the cart before the horse, the answer of course is that it depends on your situation. Time and money are the two main variables in this equation, but don’t forget about skill.
